This article stub went incomplete around October 2023, and is continued below... little more than a year later.

We're just shy of four years since writing our last post, though in our defense we did say the plan went to hell. I feel there's some valid circumstances here.

I'll spare you the monotonous detail; just suffice it to say we got busy living, and it's been a challenge to keep up with nearly anything.

My back healed up enough to return to work, and Shiela has become the homeschooling matron in my stead, and the waves of grief from my father's passing have gotten a bit smaller.

So, what's all this mean anyway? We've been working with Behan and Jamie of Sailing Totem, they've been mentoring us toward getting into our own boat. We still don't have a boat, ...

We finally got our ship together.

No, seriously. We finally got the sailboat.

If I've timed this right, this post has gone live at 0800ET on 4 December 2024–about the time Shiela and I will have woken up after our first night aboard our sailboat which is currently located in Annapolis, Maryland. Can you think of a more serendipitous start than waking up on one's own sailboat in the Sailing Capital of the US!?

From the outside looking in, it can sure seem like arrival to this day was easy. The challenges described in the single post I made in the last few years belie the length of time and the efforts we undertook for this morning to materialize: 8 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Our next post will talk more about our near-decade-long process that got us to today.
